Háafoss is a dramatic waterfall located in the Fossárdalur valley, within the larger Þjórsárdalur valley in southern Iceland, near the volcano Hekla. With a drop of approximately 122 meters (400 feet), it is considered one of the tallest waterfalls in Iceland, fed by the Fossá river, a tributary of the Þjórsá river. The waterfall is notable for its raw, untouched setting and the nearby waterfall Granni, which falls alongside it, creating an impressive natural spectacle. The geological formations around Háafoss, consisting of thick lava flows and palagonite tuff, offer insights into Iceland's volcanic history, with rock layers estimated to be nearly two million years old. The area gained international attention after being featured as a filming location in the final season of the series *Stranger Things*.
