Garðabær is a municipality in the Capital Region of Iceland, situated south of Reykjavík between Kópavogur and Hafnarfjörður. It is the fifth largest municipality in Iceland, with a population of over 20,000 residents as of 2025. The area has been continuously inhabited since the 9th century, with archaeological evidence of Viking settlements. Garðabær is known for its modern architecture, low-density development, and as home to the only IKEA and Costco stores in Iceland.
