VR is an Icelandic trade union, originally established in 1891 as Verzlunarmannafélag Reykjavíkur (The Commercial Association of Reykjavík), and became a pure wage-earner union in 1955. It represents commercial, office, service, and specialized workers, as well as managers and tourist guides, aiming to improve their rights, culture, and working conditions through collective bargaining and various services. VR plays a significant role in the Icelandic labor market, advocating for its members' interests, providing legal assistance, and offering grants for education and vocational training.
