Ísafjörður is the largest town in the Westfjords peninsula of northwest Iceland, serving as a significant historical trading post and a modern cultural and economic hub. It is known for its fishing industry, vibrant arts scene, and as a gateway to the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve. Recently, Kerecis, a biotechnology company based in Ísafjörður, was acquired by the Danish company Coloplast, leading to a substantial tax payment of 40 billion Icelandic Króna to Iceland due to the sale of intellectual property rights.
