Þórkatla is an Icelandic state-owned real estate company established to purchase, manage, and dispose of properties in Grindavík due to the ongoing seismic and volcanic activity in the region. Its primary role is to provide financial security and welfare for Grindavík residents by buying their homes at a predefined price, as it became clear they could not return home in the near future. The company aims to allow former residents to repurchase their properties once conditions in Grindavík stabilize and it is safe to live there again.
