Vilhjálmur Forberg Ólafsson is an Icelandic economist and the owner of Smáríkið, an online alcohol retailer. He was recently fined 100,000 Icelandic Króna (or 8 days imprisonment if not paid) for violating Iceland's alcohol laws by selling a three-liter box of Chardonnay through his website. The court ruled that Smáríkið's online sales constituted retail sales, which fall under the exclusive retail monopoly of ÁTVR, the State Alcohol and Tobacco Company of Iceland. Ólafsson's company, Smáríkið, has announced its intention to appeal the verdict to the Landsréttur (Court of Appeals).
