Rúmenía, also known as Romania, is a country located in Southeastern Europe, bordering Ukraine and Moldova to the northeast. It is a member of the European Union and NATO. In Icelandic media, Rúmenía is primarily mentioned in the context of Moldova importing electricity from Romania, often through power lines that traverse southern Ukraine. Diplomatic relations between Iceland and Romania were established in 1956 and upgraded to embassy level in 1963, with Romania supporting Iceland's application for EU membership.
