Austurland, also known as East Iceland, is one of Iceland's eight regions, located in the eastern part of the country. It is characterized by its dramatic coastlines, fjords, small villages, and diverse natural landscapes, including mountains and waterfalls. The region had a population of 11,085 in 2024 and its largest town is Egilsstaðir. Historically, fishing and trade were central to its economy, and it is now also a significant tourist destination known for its hiking trails, wildlife, and cultural heritage.
