Staður

Kópavogsbær is a municipality in southwestern Iceland, located immediately south of Reykjavík and part of the Capital Region. It is the second-most populous municipality in Iceland, with 41,457 residents as of March 2025. The town is historically significant as the site of the 1662 Kópavogur meeting, which marked Iceland's incorporation into Denmark–Norway. Ásdís Kristjánsdóttir has been the mayor of Kópavogsbær since June 15, 2022. The "Kópavogsmódel" refers to fundamental changes made to the municipality's preschool system in the autumn of 2023, which included six hours of free childcare, though this model has faced criticism.
