Höfuðborgarsvæðið, also known as the Capital Region, is a statistical region in southwestern Iceland that encompasses the national capital Reykjavík and six surrounding municipalities. It is the smallest region by area but is home to approximately two-thirds of Iceland's population, making it the most densely populated and significant urban, economic, political, and cultural center in the country. As of 2025, the region has a population of 249,054 residents.
