Kjalarnes

Staður

Kjalarnes is a peninsula and the northernmost district within the municipality of Reykjavík, Iceland, encompassing an expansive area that projects into Faxaflói bay. [2] Historically, it is significant as the site of early Icelandic settlement and hosted Kjalarnesþing, Iceland's inaugural regional parliament, which was a precursor to the national Alþingi assembly. [2, 4] The district, though the largest in Reykjavík by land area, is the least populated, with around 600 inhabitants, and is known for its rural character despite being part of the capital. [3, 5, 7] Mount Esja, a prominent landmark, is located in Kjalarnes. [3, 5]
