Norður-Ameríka

Staður

Norður-Ameríka is the Icelandic name for North America, the third-largest continent, encompassing Canada, Greenland, Mexico, the United States, Central American countries, and Caribbean islands. Iceland has significant historical and cultural ties to North America, particularly through emigration waves in the late 19th century and the historical Viking exploration of Vinland (North America) around 1000 AD by Leif Erikson. Geologically, part of Iceland lies on the North American tectonic plate, though it is culturally and politically considered part of Europe.
