Besta deildin, officially known as Besta deild karla, is the highest level men's professional football league in Iceland, governed by the Football Association of Iceland (KSÍ). Established in 1912 as the Icelandic Championship, it features 12 teams competing from April to September due to Iceland's harsh winters. The league champion qualifies for the UEFA Champions League, and other top teams enter the UEFA Europa League or UEFA Conference League qualifiers. The phrase "Sér um allt í Bestu deildinni: „Fólkið er ekki neitt án leiðtoga“" (Manages everything in the Besta deildin: "The people are nothing without a leader") refers to a marketing campaign for the league, introducing an "events and quality manager" named Ólafur H. Kristjánsson.
