Norðurland eystra, also known as Northeast Iceland or the Northeastern Region, is one of the eight traditional regions of Iceland, located in the northern part of the island. Its largest town and capital is Akureyri, which had a population of 19,542 in 2024. The region is known for its geothermal wonders, diverse wildlife, and rich cultural heritage, including attractions like Lake Mývatn and Dettifoss waterfall.
