Hezbollah is a Shiite Muslim political party and militant group based in Lebanon, founded in 1982 in response to the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. It is backed by Iran and is driven by its opposition to Israel and Western influence in the Middle East. Hezbollah is considered a terrorist organization by many countries, including the United States, and has a significant military wing that has engaged in conflicts with Israel. While there is no indication of Hezbollah having a direct role or significance in Iceland, Icelandic media has reported on Hezbollah's actions, such as attacks on Israeli military bases in retaliation for attacks on Iran, and Iceland has joined other European countries in condemning the escalation of violence in Lebanon involving Hezbollah.
