Reyðarfjörður

Staður

Reyðarfjörður is a town in eastern Iceland, situated at the base of the longest and widest of the East Fjords. It holds historical significance as the site of the second-largest Allied military base in Iceland during World War II, primarily housing British and American troops due to its strategic location and good harbor conditions. Today, Reyðarfjörður is known for the Alcoa Fjarðaál aluminum smelter, which opened in 2007, and the Icelandic Wartime Museum, which preserves the history of the WWII occupation.
